Visit the sweetpotato fields at the WSU Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon to see common commercial varieties, purple-flesh varieties,varieties with more bush-like growth for better weed management, wireworm resistant varieties and unreleased breeding lines from the USDA sweetpotato program. View a side-by-side comparison of sweetpotatoes grown with black plastic mulch vs. no mulch. Resultsof research trials will be discussed, including ideal harvest times, and economic potential for dual-cropping sweetpotato greens and roots in Western Washington.
