Engage your curiosity and join the discovery of Maryland's diverse history with the Lost Towns Project! Learn alongside of professional archaeologists at excavations, gain behind-the-scene access that provides endless opportunities to have some fun and take your understanding to the next level. Participants can learn excavation techniques, mapping, photography, and artifact analysis. No prior archaeological field experience is required!
This summer, help the Lost Towns Project document the effects of climate change, erosion, and human activity on 10,000 years of occupation in the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary on the Patuxent River. Assist archaeologists in the ongoing excavations at the Pindell Bluff site, part of a large complex of Native American sites that span the last 10,000 years of history. Two field sessions are being offered, a three-day session from June 12-14, and a one day session on June 21st.
